Work at Home as a Freelance Professional

Work at Home as a Freelance Professional

Starting a Proffessional freelance home business is a good idea for anyone who wants to work from home, be their own boss, and work on projects they are passionate about. If you have skills in graphic design, computer applications, and web design, writing, photography, and other artistic endeavors, then you may be able to freelance in your area. Depending on the needs for your services, you can work with clients locally, nationally, or internationally by relying on the Internet for most of your communication.

Researching the need for your skills is important so you can feel secure that there is enough business to keep you financially stable. If you are still working full-time, freelancing on the side is a great way to see if you can turn it into a full-time work from home position. Once you have determined there is a need for your services, then you can begin to search for jobs.

If you are planning to begin freelancing right away, you should first consider your financial situation. As a rule, you should have at least three months of living expenses in your bank account so you can pay bills and other expenses while building your business. Because it can take a few months to get established, you will need to have a financial safety net in place so you can relax and not have to worry about paying your bills.

If you have connections from any previous jobs you have had, contact them and let them know you are freelancing. They may have projects for you or they may be able to recommend your services. Networking is one of the most important tasks you can do when running a freelance home business. The more connections you make, the better your chances will be for on-going work and a steady income.

Along with networking, advertising your services is also important. Build a website, creating a mailing list, and contact companies that could be interested in using your services. These are all ways to increase your contacts and build a business. Once you have a steady group of clients who need to have projects completed, you should still advertise, but you won't have to be as aggressive.

Running a freelance home business is exciting and challenging. Being your own boss, setting your own hours, and taking on projects you can be proud to contribute to are the rewards for all the efforts you put into marketing, networking, and making connections. While you should enjoy your success, remember that even though you work from home, you are still working. Keep distractions to a minimum and always remain professional when speaking with a client on the phone or when meeting with them in person to discuss a project.

The Challenges of Being your Own Boss

The Challenges of Being your Own Boss
Copyright © Thomas Neville
Work At home Computer Based Business site

Being your own boss is a great experience. It is liberating and it seems like a dream come true for many people. However, being your own boss is also a lot of responsibility and something that some people may struggle with. It takes a special person to be able to stay motivated and focused enough to be their own boss. Fortunately, almost anyone can learn how to be their own boss just by understanding the challenges of the job.

Meeting deadlines and getting things done is something that the average worker simply does or they know they will be fired. In the work at home environment, though, those rules can sometimes be laxed. There may not be someone right there saying things need to get done. Clients may not be pushy, but that doesn’t mean they are not noticing the lack of professionalism. Being your own boss means being responsible and meeting deadlines. This requires a good schedule and being able to focus and stay on task.

It can be hard to not let the independence of the situation take over. A person may just be so happy that they can do what they more often that they forget about the work part of working at home. This is where problems happen. Having a good schedule can really help to prevent problems with too much independence.

Another problem is that finding a work at home job can sometimes be difficult. It can take time and it is important for a person to not get too frustrated or let the stress get to them. They should stay focused and keep at it. Being professional in all dealings will really go a long way to helping a person secure a work at home position. Persistence is key. A person needs to keep applying and soon they will find the work at home position that works best for them. It doesn’t hurt to also network and learn more about all the opportunities out there. Focusing too much on a specific type of job can be a problem, too.

Many people are not used to having to sell themselves. In the traditional working environment most people are chosen for a job on the criteria of whether or not they can do the job. In the work at home environment, though, employers want to know they are capable of doing the job and capable of working at home. This involves a person having to sell themselves to the employer so they know they can get the job done.

Working at home and being your own boss is a challenge. If it was easy then everyone would be doing it. That is why only some people can make working at home work for them. It is not something for everyone. Being your own boss means being responsible, staying focus, being persuasive and being committed. There really is no room for slacking because that will only cause problems. Being your own boss can be a very rewarding experience, but at the same time it requires a string will and drive to get those rewards.

The Importance of a Website to a Home Business

The Importance of a Website to a Home Business
Copyright © Thomas Neville
Work At home Computer Based Business site

There are two types of home businesses. One type sells products and the other sells services. For a product based home business there is nothing that is more important to success then a website. A products based home business must have a website because that will become the actual face of the business.

In the online environment, websites are everything. Without a website a business is not going to make it because there will be no place for customers to come and see or buy the products. Basically, for the home business a website is the storefront. It is exactly like a physical store for them. Imagine a business in the physical world trying to sell products without a store. That would be quite difficult and not very profitable. A business must have some place from where they sell their products. That is the bottom line.

With that in mind, a business owner needs to set up a website because it is important. Setting up a website requires some skills. Fortunately there are so many options that allow a person to set up their own website without having to hire expensive programmers or other professionals to do it. There are many website making programs that handle all the programming and involve simply the aesthetics of website creation.

The website should have some key characteristics. They are as follows:

Showcase the business. This includes what the products are and information about the company. Nothing should be left to question. When a customer comes to the website they should easily be able to find the information they need.
Develop a strong image. Every business that is well known has strong image that is recognizable. This may include using a slogan or a mascot, but not matter what it should be a major point of the website.
Make it easy to use. People want to shop where it is easy to shop. Giving them an easy to use website is a great way to make it easier for them to buy and make it more likely they will want to shop there.

There are plenty of things a website should have, but these are the main points. Basically, the whole idea behind a website is that it is the communication point between the customer and the business. These three points make that clear and also bring up the fact that a website is also the main representation of the business.

People are going to look at the business website for an idea of what the business is all about. If it is not professional then they will assume the business is not professional. People do not do business with unprofessional companies. It is easy to see the major importance of a good website to a home business.

Many times home businesses fail because they just do not get the point of a website. This is a critical point to being successful in a home business. It can not be stressed enough that for a home business to succeed, it must have a strong website.

The Two Main Types of Home Business

The Two Main Types of Home Business
Copyright © Thomas Neville
Work At home Computer Based Business site

There are two main types of home businesses. These two types are quite different when it comes to operating the business and even handling customers. The two types of home businesses are – service and product.

Service based home businesses involves selling a service to a customer. These businesses can usually get started for a small investment. They require a lot of commitment to the customer. In a service business the customer service is very important because the customer is not only buying the service but also the interaction with the business owner. The one main concern is delivering the service to the customer. You will be responsible for making sure you can effectively deliver the product. That may involve only selling in a specific are or utilizing tools like email or downloads. You may end up having to take a computer class or getting outside help to deliver your service.

A product based home business involves selling a product to the customer. The products are the main sales point. Customer service is important but it is really the product that draws in the customer and keeps them coming back. With a product business there are two options – selling your own product or selling someone else’s product. These two options are different, as well.

Selling your own product means you have to keep inventory of the product. You have to manufacture the product and handle all the legal issues about the product. You are in complete control over every aspect of the business. You ship, handle issues and sell. Everything is your responsibility. It is a big thing to take on, but if you have a good product it can mean huge profits.

Selling someone else’s product is easier. You usually do not keep an inventory or have to ship the product. Additionally, all of the legal aspects and product stuff is handled by the manufacturer. The major downside, though, is that you usually share in the profits with the manufacturer.

As you can see, a home business means a lot of choice. How do you decide which is the best choice for you? That usually involves thinking about what you are going to sell. If you already know then you know what type of home business is best for you. However, if you do not know then you will have to go out and start brainstorming. See what options are available and figure out what you want to do.

Getting into a home business can be really rewarding. It is important, though, to choose the right type of home business. Making the wrong choice could mean you end up not happy with your business or that you have problems getting it started or running it.

Learning as much as possible about each type of home business is a great way to make sure that you end up choosing the right one. It can really make a difference in the long run. You will find that by choosing the right home business that you find it easier to make decisions, sell to the customers and develop a good business plan.

Why Affiliate Programs are so Popular

Why Affiliate Programs are so Popular
Copyright © Thomas Neville
Work At Home Computer Based Business web site

In the search for a work at home job or a home business a person is going to run into something called affiliate programs. Affiliate programs are very popular and they can also be a very profitable and successful choice. Understanding them is important, though, before getting involved with one.

One of the first things a person needs to know about affiliate programs is the difference between them and a pyramid scheme. The two are very familiar, but there is a key difference. The difference is that with an affiliate program there are products or services being sold. In a pyramid scheme no products or services are sold. The reason these two can be confused is that both involve recruiting others in order to earn income. However, with an affiliate program recruiting is only part of the income. Selling products is another way to earn income and recruiting others is not even mandatory to earning money.

The basic idea of an affiliate program is that it starts with a company that is selling something. This company decides to find people who will sell their products or services for them. The company recruits these people, called affiliates, to sell their products and earn a commission for each product they sell. Usually the company will supply the affiliate with a website and all the tools they need to get started. The affiliate’s job then becomes advertising their website and selling the products from their website so they earn a commission.

In addition to selling the products or services, an affiliate is encouraged to get others to sign up for the program. When an affiliate gets others to sign up for the program they then earn money on that affiliates sales. When those new affiliates’ sign up people, the original affiliate earns money form them too. It keeps going like that so that a person can earn money on people who sign up many levels beneath them. This is the real money making area of an affiliate program, however, the bottom line is that if nobody sells anything then no money is made. A person can not earn money simply by signing up people if nobody is selling anything.

Affiliate programs are so popular because they are easy to get into. Most companies have well established programs that make getting started simple. Additionally, the earning potential is quite huge if a person really puts effort in to sales and recruiting new affiliates. With an affiliate program a person is really in control of how much they earn. It is a great idea for someone who is interested in a home business without all the start up work.

The keys to being really successful with an affiliate program are to choose the program wisely and then use it wisely. This means choosing to be part of an affiliate program with good products and a good reputation. It also means selling products and recruiting with effort given to each. Affiliate programs may be the thing you are looking for when it comes to a home business that is going to be inexpensive to start up and has a very good success potential.

Setting up the Best Work at Home Office

Setting up the Best Work at Home Office
Copyright © Thomas Neville
Work At home Computer Based Business

A home office is the center of having a home business or working at home. Many times people underestimate the importance of having an actual office area in which to work. It is important for many reasons and is essential when you are serious about working at home.

One of the reasons that a home office is important is that it helps to set apart a specific area that is for work only. When you have this special work only area it will help to get work done and stay more focused on actually working. Additionally, it tells everyone else that a person is working and that they can not be bothered.

Another reason is that having a home office makes the whole working at home environment much more professional. Everything is in one area and there is less of a problem with being disorganized and losing important documents and information.

In a good home office set up a person will have the following:

*Desk – should be large enough to accommodate the other office items and still leave room for working
*desktop computer – newest version possible, running a newer version of Windows
*printer – can be simple as long as print is of high quality
*fax – can use a computer fax program
*phone – ideally should be on its own line
*internet connection – high speed is preferred
*filing system – does not have to be elaborate, just sufficient

These are the main items that are usually something that a person will automatically think of when setting up their home office. It is often the little things that can trip a person up. Things like paper, pens, white out, a stapler, a hole punch and paper clips are more easily forgotten but not less important than the big items.

It is much like an office area that a person would have when working outside the home. They will have everything they need to be efficient in their business or work at home job. Being well stocked and prepared is the whole point of creating a good home office set up.

Besides just the basic set up, it is important to consider other things about the home office set up. It should be in an area of the home where there is not a lot of activity. It should ideally be in a room of its own. When the home office is in a room of its own it can then be used as a tax write off, which is an added bonus. Additionally, the home office needs to be a quiet area with limited distractions.

Having a good home office set up is imperative to being able to function in a work at home setting. Working at home comes with many distractions and it can be hard to be focused on working if a person does not have a specific work area. Additionally, potential clients or employers will find a person with a home office to be a better candidate because it shows professionalism and dedication.

5 Biggest Challenges to a Work at Home Business

5 Biggest Challenges to a Work at Home Business
Copyright © Thomas Neville
Work At Home computer Based Business

Working at home is no piece of cake. Most people understand that, but they do not really get why it can be so challenging. Outlined here are the five biggest challenges to working at home. These challenges will not stop a person from working at home but can cause a lot of problems and ruin any chance for making it in the work at home environment.

Challenge #1
Time

There is a lot of freedom when working at home on your own computer based business and that means being able to manage time efficiently is very important. It can be easy to let time get away. It is also easy to underestimate how long a task or job will take and not allot enough time to get it done. To keep time from being a challenge a person should develop a schedule and be sure to schedule both work and free time.

Challenge #2
Boundaries

Many times family and friends do not take working at home seriously which can lead to problems with boundaries. It can be hard to tell someone ‘I am working’ and actually get them to understand and accept it. To help with boundary issues a person should set up a work at home area that is specifically for work. When in the work area no personal phones calls or interruptions should be tolerated.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've just found the greatest viral marketing idea of all time!
Download now a Free Viral E-book no waiting, easy step by step instructions to put it to work for you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Challenge #3
Too much independence

Working at home is about freedom, but being too independent can lead to problems. Everyone needs interaction with others. One of the perks of working outside the home is interacting with other people. When a person works at home it can be easy to withdraw into that world and forget about the outside world. The outside world is important, though. Networking is huge part of working at home success. Every person who works at home should find some type of online environment to belong to and be able to escape to during the work day just to relax.

Challenge #4
Being out of the loop

This kind of goes with independence. Being out of the loop means not staying informed. Working at home is about staying informed and knowing what is going on in the industry in which you are working. A person should be a part of online groups and other communities that will give them information they should know.

Challenge #5
Lack of support

As mentioned before, sometimes family and friends will not be supportive. It is common for them to not believe a person is really working and that they are just messing around. The way to combat this is to show them what is going on. A person should show what they do, how much money they make and make it clear that this is a real job.

These five challenges are going to be an issue for almost everyone who works at home at their own computer based business. They are challenges that can be overcome, though, so they should never lead to a person giving up on working at home. Challenges will just make a person a better worker and teach them important skills they need to survive in the work at home environment.

Do you have what it takes to be an e-entrepreneur?

Do you have what it takes to be an e-entrepreneur?

Copyright © Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy
Author of "Dotcomology - The Science of Making Money Online"

These days, it seems like everyone wants to work
from home and make money on the Internet. But
before you even turn on your computer, the first
question you have to ask yourself is whether
you’re cut out for this kind of work.

If you have 5 minutes take the test to determine your eligibility. I have a "work at home test" that will help you see your e-entrepreneur abillity. It is Free, takes less than 5 minutes and I will email you back a analysis of your response.

Click Here to take the test

The fact is, building a home-based business isn’t
for everyone. Some people like the commute. They
really do enjoy having a boss who tells them what
to do, and they like the routine of working
nine-to-five for an ordinary salary that can
barely pay the mortgage. Personally, I think
they’re nuts.

More reasonably, there are people who are
concerned about the risk of starting up their own
business. They’re not sure it’s worth the
investment of time and money, and they’re scared
of the responsibility that comes with running
their own company. They wonder if there is
another way to escape the rat race.

I’m sure there is. You could win the lottery or
wait for your Aunt Sue to keel over and leave you
her condo. Or maybe you could sit down with a pen
and paper and draw the blueprint for "The Next
Big Thing". Anything can happen... Right?

For me, what happened was creating a successful,
self-running Internet marketing system. It didn’t
happen without effort. It didn’t happen without
at least some initial investment of both time and
money and, of course, it doesn’t happen now
without me making sure that the taxes are filed
and the paperwork is done. But it happened.

I’m my own boss. I work from home according to my
own schedule and I get to pocket all the cash my
business makes. If you’re prepared to give an
e-business the time, the work and the money it
needs to get started and get growing, it can
happen for you too.

Designing the best Website for your Home Business

Designing the best Website for your Home Business
Copyright © Thomas Neville
www.101WaysToIncome.com

There is a lot of information about how to build a good business website out there. There are a lot of tips and tricks on how to build a website without needing a programmer or hiring a professional. All of these technical tips and little pieces of advice often overlook the big picture and end up making the home business owner micromanage the small details. While this is nice and will actually be good for the business it is not the only advice a person needs to hear in order to build a good business website.

There are three key points to building a good business website. These three points can easily be lost in the technical aspect of building a website. They are very important, though, to the user. When building a website keeping the user in mind is important, especially when building a business website where the user is key to success.

The three points are as follows:

Point #1
Make it easy to use.

A website should be easy to use. A visitor should be able to navigate the site without hassle. This means they do not need to be bombarded with pop up ads or have to search for anything. Everything needs to right there for them and they should be able to easily see how shopping and checking out works.

Point #2
It should be informative.

Online users are now used to websites that are informative and actually offer them something. Most people will simply leave a website if they can not get information from it. People are spoiled, but that doesn’t matter. A website needs a section with a blog or articles that allow the user to get useful information.

Point #3
It should be clear and simple.

This goes along with being easy to use. A website should not be cluttered or difficult to figure out. People are not going to work to get to anything on a website. If they can not figure it out then they will leave. Menus should be clear and every aspect of the shopping experience should be clear.

In order to ensure a website meets these three points a business owner should try it out before going live. They should go through the website and make sure it is not confusing or there is too much on any page. It is also a good idea to put up a survey that allows visitors to say what they do and do not like about the site.

Making sure these three points are covered will really help to make a website a success. It can be a big boost for a home business, as well. People want a good experience and a good experience includes a website that is easy to use, informative and clear. This is all something that can be worked into the final steps of building a website. Once the technical things are handled the focus can shift to making it user friendly and making it a website that people are going to want to visit.

5 Work at Home Myths and Misconceptions

5 Work at Home Myths and Misconceptions

Work At Home Computer Based Business

When it comes to working at home there are many myths and misconceptions out there. Many times these myths and misconceptions make people decide against working at home. They also can be harmful because they lead people to believe that working at home is something that it is not. A lot of the time people believe these things without even finding out if they are true or legitimate. It is important for a person who is interested in working at home to figure out fact from fiction.

The following are the top myths and misconceptions that a person may run into when looking into working at home:

1. Working at home means complete freedom. This is not completely true. While it has some truth to it is also a little misleading. The idea that a person is completely free when working at home does not make a lot of sense. The reason it is called working at home is because it involves work. If a person were truly free they would not have any work to do. So, working at home does give a person freedom, but at the same time it is still important to remember there is also time that must go into working.

2. Working at home works for everyone. This is completely not true. Working at home is not for everyone. It requires a lot of commitment, dedication, professionalism and organization. A person has to be able to commit to the work and get it done. Not everyone works well independently and on their own. Some people simply need direction and need someone to keep them going. For people like that working at home is not the best option.

3. Working at home is easy. This may come from the fact that working at home has many perks, but that does not mean it is easy. A person is still working and still has responsibilities. Working at home is like any other job. It is important that people understand working at home can sometimes be more demanding then working outside the home, but the payoffs are often what make it worth it.

4. There are no “real” work at home jobs. This is very wrong. Many people focus in on the scams and think that is what working at home is about. The truth is that there are many people out there working at home and making more then they ever could in a job outside the home. Many people are raising a family on their work at home job. There are many real work at home jobs, but it does take determination and work to find the good ones where the real potential is found.

These four myths and misconceptions can lead to real problems for people who believe them. Working at home is a wonderful opportunity that should not be missed simply due to believing things like this. A person should find out the truth before they give up completely on working at home.

Top 5 Work at Home Mistakes

Work at Home Computer Based Business

There are many things that a person should know about working at home before they start even looking for a work at home job. The following outlines the top five mistakes people make when they work at home or are trying to work at home. By understanding these top five mistakes a person can avoid them and therefore have a better chance of being successful at working at home.

Mistake #1
Not being serious or professional.

Working at home is a job. For some reason people tend to think they can slack off or not take it seriously. It should always be approached as any job would. Being professional and serious is important if a person ever wants to find an employer to hire them. Professionalism goes beyond just dealing with employers but also extends to the online presence a person has. With anything online it is important to remember that anyone can access it unless it is private. This means social networking sites, even single site, may be seen by a potential employer. Do not put anything out there that you can not be proud of your employer seeing or reading.

Mistake #2
Falling for a scam.

Most people who fall for a work at home scam do so because they have not taking the time to research scams and learn how to spot them. Scams can cause a lot of trouble and may even make you a target for other scammers. A person has to be educated and learn as much as possible about work at home scams so they do not fall victim to them.

Mistake #3
Not networking.

One of the most important parts of working at home is networking. Without networking a person is trying to do it alone and that will rarely work out in their best interest. Networking has to be part of the process so a person can meet others who work at home and get advice and help when they need it.

Mistake #4
Not going for it all.

Many times people are so happy to find some work at home job that they never even try to find something they really love. There are so many options out there that a person can not be afraid to keep looking and always be seeking out that perfect job.

Mistake #5
Not getting educated.

As mentioned, not being educated about the work at home environment is a huge mistake. Not only can it cause problems, like falling for a scam, but it can really limit a person. Getting educated is the best way to be successful and really have a good experience with working at home.

These top five mistakes may not seem all that big, but they are all very important to understand. Making one of them may not mean the end of a work at home career, but making a couple or all of them could spell tragedy and possible end any chance of a person ever working from home.

Warmest Regards,

Affiliate Internet Marketing is a Great Work at Home Business

Affiliate Internet Marketing is a Great Work at Home Business

A great computer based business you can work at home and is an easy way to make money is affiliate marketing. This method uses your ability to promote a specific product for sale or a service for hire. By promoting their product you are helping the company you are affiliated with to do business and be successful. They help you by paying you a commission to do this for them.

The easiest way to perform this money making program is to have a link on your website that allows visitors to link to and see what the company has to offer. Simply put their link at the bottom of your webpage and people have the choice whether they want to look or if they are going to only look at what your website is offering. The best way to do this is to make sure that link opens up in a separate window from your site, so they can still see your site.

Sales that are made directly from those who clicked the link on your website are credited to you and therefore will produce a commission for you. The only way this is going to work well is if the company you are affiliated with is offering a product that is comparable or complimentary to your website. If your website is for a horse farm you cannot expect to offer links to high fashion and make any money. But if the company sells saddles or tack then this would be an excellent match.

If this is not to your liking and you are still looking for good ways to make money online than you should consider instead selling a product or service that you are knowledgeable about. Information products are selling like crazy now. Don't choose something so unusual that it has no interest but at the same time do not offer the same thing that hundreds of other websites are offering. You must be innovative.

You will also have to find ways to bring people to your website and once they are there to keep their interest. Bringing traffic to your website is a task that will require hard work and some SEO knowledge. You need to make your site searchable and ranking so that the consumer will bring up your page in their searches and therefore go to our website to see what you have to offer. Keyword optimization is the main way that you are going to go about doing this. Finding profitable, niche keywords can be time consuming and hard work but it is essential to a successful site. If you can provide a good product you will find that this is one of the easy ways to make money online.

Creating your own product and marketing it and selling it for an income is the best way to go if you can. However, if you don't already have a product then the second best way is going to be affiliate internet marketing. There are literally thousands of products that you can choose from so you are assured of finding a product you can believe in and market well.
